Trinity River 12-12-07

I got a day off the Trinity river today....So I went to the Sac for more fish.  I know the Sac has had it bad luck this year.  We heard of some fish coming up the river.  The boys from Poker Bar went out for a little poker and a day of fishing.  Wayne got 2 nice Kings today.  I will have a couple of trips on the Sac.  I want you to check out he picture I took on the Trinity in the am.  The weather was about 18 degrees on the water.  The steelhead fishing is still good. The rain coming at the end of the week is just what we need.

Trinity River 12-10-07

We have been busy on the Trinity.  The weather is getting cold, ice on the Loomis cold.  The fishing has been warm to hot.  We are seeing some nice steelhead in the river.  The rain pushed the fish up river.  I had some first time steelhead fisherman over the last 4 days.  Gary is back and on the web again.  I want you to check on Don's big steelhead.  30 1/2 inches long and a solid 13 lbs.  This is for a first  time steelhead fisherman.....Does it get any better????  I am getting things ready for International Sportsman Expos.  Your better have your dates if you want to get into these fish.  I will be in San Mateo and Sacramento this year.  I can't wait.  Check out the fish with a snickers.  Dean was hungry and wanted to eat.  Grandpa and Dad told him he needed to catch his first steelhead.  Dean caught his fish and got the snickers.

The Trinity river has been place to be.  The pressure on the river is very heavy.  The steelhead are in the upper to middle part of the river, Lewiston to Junction City.  This make this the place for everyone to be.  I think the last of the salmon have pushed up.  I would like some nice rain to bring in some new steelhead to the system.  Here are the pictures of the last few days. Make sure you have your steelhead dates!!!!!!!!!

Trinity River 10-25-07

The river came back into shape late Sunday night. The Money's were up for Pam's birthday party on the Trinity river.  We had only one fish on Saturdays drift.  Late Sunday we floated down river and found a solid group of salmon.  We landed 14 salmon all over 10lbs.  Nelson did it again, on Pam's birthday, Pam should get a big fish.  4 years ago, Nelson landed a 34lbs salmon.  Nelson fish only weighed 22 lbs, but just check it out.  I finished off the week with 54 salmon and 12 steelhead.  The river has heavy pressure, just take your time!!!!  I have new video that will be up soon. I have just a few days left. Don't miss out.

Whiskeytown Res / Trinity / Sac River 9-7-07

The Trinity fishing has been good all week.  The fish are up and down the river is good numbers.  The steelhead are down low and the salmon are in all the holes.  Sacramento got a good push of fish yesterday over the dam.  I am off to Alaska for Rainbows and Silvers.  I will be back in a week.  Fish On!!!!!

Whiskeytown Res / Trinity / Sac River 8-31-07

Trinity has a good number of fish in it.  The steelhead are coming up in a big way.  The counts at the weir are showing signs for another great season.  Pete and some guy named Matt (49er fan) fished with me today. We saw some nice schools of fish sitting in the back of the holes.  We caught some nice salmon and no steelhead today.  Weather is HOT!!! Have a safe weekend...Fish On

Whiskeytown Res / Trinity / Sac River 8-26-07

Water flows on the Trinity are up...That is great news.  We will start to see a push of fish later this week.  I fished the Sac yesterday.  We work hard for our bites.  The count over the dam is 1000 fish higher than last year at this time.  The Sac will only get better.  We had to listen to Matt after showing us "how to do it".

Whiskeytown Res / Trinity / Sac River 8-24-07

We are almost done with the new site. Kip is working hard on it.  Trinity is starting to pick up.  Check out the picture this week.  I am down to about 4 open dates in Oct and some more in Nov.  The steelhead action is going to be big!!!!  I hope everyone enjoys the new site.  Coming SOON !!!

Whiskeytown Res / Trinity / Sac River 8-11-07

Sorry for the delays.  I now have high speed internet. Our web site is undergoing a major change.  I hope everything will done in the next couple of weeks.  Trinity fish is O.K., we a seeing 1 to 3 salmon per trip.  The better news is the steelhead season looks just as big as last season.

Sacramento will start fishing better now that all the boats can work all the river now.  I will be on the Sac. this week.

Whiskeytown is pushing out some great kokes.  We had 5 fish well into the 17" range today.  The rest were all 16+ inches.  We had 18+ fish on, with 11 to the boat.  The fish are deep.  The colors are almost the same.  I used a few new hoochies with good results.  I have some picture on my cell phone (forgot camera)  not sure how to get them off, I will.

Whiskeytown Res / Trinity / Sac River 8-2-07

The upper Trinity River is starting to see salmon stacking up in the holes.  Some of the fish are getting dark.  The counts at the wier are still good with a number of salmon, steelhead and German Browns.  I had the pleasure of going to the Sacramento above Red Bluff for the salmon opener.  Yesterday there were 70 boat in Barge Hole.  Today there were only 3 boats.  That sounds good right?  We were on the water at 5:00 a.m . Our fish fish at 5:30, a nice 4+lbs rainbow. The day looked to be good, not another bite after that.  Everyone we talked to did not have any fish.  A fun trip, but can only get better.  I am booking Sacramento salmon trips.  Please watch your newsletter for a special on the Sacramento.  It will only come to you if you have signed up for it.  Fish on  Steve

Whiskeytown/ Trinity River 7-23-07

I had a tough day on Saturday.  The fish we were catching were second year fish.  Today was a much better day .  The fish are deep...deep...deep.  I lost my first downrigger ball for the season today.  Does that tell you how deep I was ?  I caught fish all on types of riggers today.  I am off to the Feather for some salmon and then back to the river.

Whiskeytown Res / Trinity 7-20-07

I am home now.  I got to check out Lake Michigan for a couple of weeks.  I am glad to be home.  I will on the lake this weekend and on the Trinity and Feather Rivers next week.  I will be booking Salmon on the Sacramento starting in Aug.  Thanks Steve

Whiskeytown Res / Trinity River 7-3-07

The Trinity is starting to see a good amount of Spring Salmon and Brown's in the river.  I hooked my first steelhead on the river Saturday.   Whiskeytown is still push out out some nice fish.  We hooked 14+ and landed 8 nice fish today.  The boys did a great job while the adults just watched.  Take you kids fishing!!!!!!

I am going to take a holiday for a couple of days and travel.  I will update with some pictures.  Make sure you have your dates for our salmon and steelhead season!!!

Whiseytown Res / Trinity River 6-28-07

I will be starting my Spring Salmon trips this week.  We are staring so see a few more at the weirs this week.  The steelhead and browns are moving up river too.  Whiskeytown is fishing good, you going to have to spend a few hours to find limits.  The fish are in the 40-60' range.  Sep's 4/0 gold & silver star-lite with a hot orange kokanee amd good 25' back from the boat.  The fish are just getting to the 17" range.

Whiskeytown Res / Trinity River 6-21-07

Whiskeytown Res. is still fishing well. It takes some work to find limits, but it can be done. Sep's 4/0 gold star-lite and hot orange kokanee kandy....I have to keep saying that, because that is what's working best!!!! The fish are in the 40-60' range with speed at 1.0 mph to 1.5 mph. The best news, The Trinity Spring Salmon are in Burnt Ranch fall right now. We will be fishing the river next week. More to come.... Great job boy's today....

Whiskeytown Res  6-12-07

I had a couple of nice days off,  working on my place.  I have to get it done before all the fishing in the lakes and rivers start.  Trinity is starting to see some salmon.  The numbers are small, but if you need a salmon, you have a chance.  The river is fishable all the way down.  Whiskeytown was windy today, but we got some nice fish.  I hope you like the way I measure the fish.  I hear about all these fish being caught.  You will find pictures to back our stories.  The girth on the fish are getting big.  I used a  Sep's 4/0 dodger to measure girth today.  Limits will come, but you are going to need to work all the key areas, 299 bridge, cold water curtain, and the dam.  The fish where in the 40's to start and down to 63' later in the day.

Whiskeytown Res  5-30-07

Things were a little tough on the lake today. The wind was calm, but we were coming off a full moon, sound goods right??? I wish it was all that easy. We landed 8 small 2nd year fish today. 4 nice 15"+ and lost another good 10 fish. The take downs were there, but the fish gods did not bless us. The water temp was at 68 degrees; very warm for the early season. The fish were caught in the 50-60' range. The hardware used, Sep's gold star-lite in both 4/0 and 3/0 sizes with a orange kokanee kandy and Sep's orange prosecret.

Whiskeytown Res  5-25-06

I got a chance to fish with my oldest son Kyle and father.  I have watched my father lose the first couple of fish every time we fish together.  Today would be no different.  I have watched the fish just keep growing on Whiskeytown.  The colors have been the same.  Just wait until you hear the report we recorded for California Sportsman.  You can hear in on www.anglerboys.com if you miss it.  We had 3 nice fish landed in about 4 minutes.  Talk about a Chinese fire drill, we did it.  Great things to come for this lake. Sorry my fish rack lost a few letter thanks to Cal.  I will get fixed this week.  Fish On!!!!

Whiskeytown Res  5-21-07

I had the pleasure of fishing with Diane and Cal Kellogg today.  Cal is a writer for the "Fish Sniffer Maganzine and future farmer.  Cal started the day losing the first 4 kokanee, that's where farming comes in.  Diane, on the other hand did not lose any fish today.  We had a windy last night and morning.  We hit the water around 6:30 am.  The breeze was about 15 mph.  That makes for tough fishing on Whiskeytown.  We had to hide in the Whiskeytown Creek cove.  When the kokanee see the boat, they just go crazy.  That is all part of fishing.  You have to take the good and the bad sometimes, it was just Cal's turn. Then the wind stopped, it  gave us a chance to get out into the middle of the lake.  We had 2 doubles and Cal landed a 17" kokanee.  This was my biggest fish so far in this early season.  We ended up with 9 fish in the box.  I fished Sep's 4/0 gold star-lite  and 4/0 Gold with blue prism dodgers with a hot orange kokanee kandy.  Our depth was between 50'-65' of water.  Good day with great people.

Whsikeytown Res 5-18-07

Back to work on the lake today.  I had a Ken out today.  Ken had never caught a fish using downriggers.  We found the fish have moved into the main body of the lake.  The fish were  a lot bigger today.  Our smallest was 15" and largest 16 1/2".  Take a guess what set-up I was using.  The fish were is the 50'-60' depts.  Lost a couple big boys at the boat, all good fun.

Whiskeytown Res 5-15-07

I met up with Jason and Holly today.  We hit hit water at 6:30 a.m.  There were a few boats working the 299 bridge.  We got a double and even a triple today.  Sep's 4/0 gold star-lite and hot orange kokanee kandy on all rods today.  It did not take long for our limits.  We had the boat out of the water and fished cleaned before 11:30.  That is a good day.  The fish were all in the 14"-16" range today.

Whiskeytown Res 5-14-07

I had some friends from Poker Bar out fishing the lake.  We were on the water early and off before the heat.  Action came from the 40-60' range.  We are seeing some big early kokanee, just wait!!!!

Whiskeytown Res 5-3-07

We started out at 8:00 a.m from Whiskeytown creek. It took us 5 minutes to find our first finish, it was a 14" Brook trout. I knew we were in the right place. I ran a Sep's 4/0 in Starlite, watermelon, Chrt. and Pink butt with a 10-12" leader to a kokanee kandy. The fish are in the 40' to 60' range. We had our limit of 10 fish by 11:00 a.m. The fish are in the 13"-15" range. It is going to be a big year on Whiskeytown. These fish are FAT!!! Check out the pictures on our web. The new boat is all broken in now and ready to fish.

Whiskeytown Res. 5-1-07

Kokanee time !!!!!  I got the new boat on to Whiskeytown today. We just got our lines out before the rain started. It did not take long to get our first kokanee. The fish were at 50 - 60 ft down. Everyone knows I had a Sep's 4/0 starlite and a hot orange kokanee candy on one rod. The other 2 colors were Sep's 4/0 Pink and 4/0 Chart. We got all the fish on Chart. The wind picked up and so did we to the boat dock. The bass fishing were telling me the fishing has been great the last week. Everyone is working the shore lines and arms. I will back on Whiskeytown later this week.

Sacramento River 4-12-07

I got to have a little break, well needed.    We have a new boat getting ready for us.  It is a 22 1/2 Willie Raptor.  Sunnys Marine is loading it full of new toys.  I will have 4 new Scotty's 1106 downriggers.  A new Bow trolling motor and GPS system installed.  I hope to have the boat back next week sometime.  I was out striper fishing with Jason today.  4 guides on the same boat.  We were working with some new methods, after that I switched right back to back bouncing minnows.  It was fish on time.  We landed a good 14 stripers with little effort.  Action is good when boats are NOT running over the fish.  DO NOT RUN BIG MOTORS.  We took 5 fish on one drift with no other boats in the area.  Action will only get better.  I hope to be on Whiskeytown next week with the new boat.  Lots of changes to the web site over the next month.

Trinity River 3-25-07

I finished my steelhead season up today.  I had Sean and Michele for my last day.  We had a lot of smolts in the river.  The coho and steelhead are working themselves down river.  We got Michele her first steelhead on the right side of the boat.  Sean lost a nice size fish on the left.  Next year I am going to keep track of what side the fish are taken on.  It has been a great season, I want to thank everyone this year for a great time.

Trinity River  3-19-07

We had a couple of tough to ok days on the Trinity this week.  We have the smolt steelhead in the river right now.  The afternoon hatch is great for the fly fishing.  We are getting 1 to 3 chances for adult steelhead and a good shot at a Brown.  I fished Lewiston today, with a couple of nice trout taken.  Trinity lake is seeing good bass, and rainbows are getting ready to move up river to spawn.  Striper action will start in the next couple of weeks.

Trinity River  3-10-07

Happy Birthday Father!!!!  I had to get that in.  We had a nice time on the river today.  Sorry John, you lost $15.00 to your dad.  We landed a couple of nice fish today.  We had a lot of short strikes on the plugs.  Take your time on the water, it is clear.  Fish On!!!

Trinity River 3-2-07

Had a nice day on the river today.  The bite was slower with the river clearing up.  The conditions are very clear with most of the river open to fishing.

Trinity River 2-28-07

The snow came down for about a hour today.  The water is clearing fast.  I saw some new fish pushing upriver.  Check out the size of the brown and steelhead we caught today. Warmer weather due in.  Fish On!!!

Trinity River 2-27-07

Our snow pack in a week.....We need water for the lakes and rivers.  We had a nice big storm in last night.  Weather looks good for the weekend.  Does not get much prettier than this.

Trinity River  2-16/17-07

We had a tough Friday.  We had 3 fish on and lost all of them.  The sun made it out early and the water is clear again.  Started Saturday with a fish on in the first hole.  I told the guys, if the fish jumps, 3 Hail Mary's as fast as you can.  We had 5 adults on today, landing 2 nice fish.  I am off to Disneyland for a couple of days.  Rain and snow are coming this week.  I will have a report up as soon as I hit the water.  Thanks for all the emails, I "Thank You!!!" for reading our reports.  Fish ON!!!  Mickey !!!!

Trinity River 2-15-07

OK, the theory with the left side was broken today.  I think because I had Bob Sr. & Bob Jr. today.  The water is back to clear again.  It looked like we were going to get rain, but it never developed.  The wind sure blew this afternoon. We had another good day on the river.  We had a couple more Brown's today.  All fish are good.

Trinity River 2-14-07

I had Cliff and Shirley on board today.  The only thing I heard was Sep, "Don't take the right side of the boat".  Shirley as soon as possible, jumped right into the left seat of the boat.  Cliff had to take the right side.  Again today, the left side took the fish.  We went 6 for 9 today.  We landed 4 German Browns, 1 1/2 pounder and 1 adult steelhead.  We lost 2 nice steelhead while fighting them to the boat.

Trinity River 2-13-07

When you have Sep, Marilyn and Jackson on your boat, you pray a lot.  I knew the fish were moving with the last few storms.  I just wanted nice weather and a few fish.  Praying must have worked again for me.  We had a great day on the river.  We went 5 for 8 with 2 nice adults.  Marilyn caught a nice German Brown and adult steelhead again.  We will have it on the radio Saturday at 6:07 am on Sports 1140.  You can also listen to it Saturday on www.anglerboys.com.  More to come.........

Trinity River 2-10-07

Rain..Rain go away now.  I wanted some, now let us fish.  I had Mike and Barbara on their first steelhead trip.  We got some heavy rain last night making for a tough day.  I took us almost all day to get an adult.  Check out Mike's first steelhead.

Trinity River 2-9-07

The rains are coming down finally up here.  The fish will start to move now.  The hatchery has finished with the spawn of steelhead this season.  We have had a great season and still going on......This is Eric and Terry's first steelhead on the Trinity.  Make sure you have your dates!!!!

Trinity River / Sac 2-3-07

Couple of days off, just what the doctor ordered.  I got to get my boys out fishing on the Sacramento for rainbows.  This is the way to introduce your kids to fishing.  30 fish in 2 hours fishing.  The size where all 10 to 12 inches, but who cares.  Trinity is still fishing good.  Rain is coming Wednesday and Thursday.  All good.  Fish On!!!

Trinity River 1-30-07

Low and clear.......Rain where are you?  Maybe next week?  I could use some rain on the Trinity.  Fishing still remains good.  The steelhead are just jumping in all the holes.  Vern and Dick have not fished the river for some years.  After seeing the fish jump, the bald eagles flew over head and landed some nice steelhead,  I think they will be back.  Fish ON!!!!!

Trinity River 1-27-07

We were out fly fishing the river today.  The weather is still cold.  The water temp. is around 37 degrees.  This will slow the steelhead movement and bite.  Mike and Dusty worked the water hard today.  Mike took a nice female on a globug.  Could use some rain, anyone know what dance is needed?

Trinity River 1-24-07

I hope everyone had a good time at the I.S.E show this year.  I still am still catching up after that show.  We need a little rain to color up the Trinity.  The flows are clear and low.  I hooked 5 steelhead today, none made it to the net.  We did catch a big brown.  I am starting to see the  down runner steelhead moving.  We will be fishing the Trinity well into March.  Fish On!!!

Trinity River 1-16-07

We got it done today.  Tim is now a new member of the steelhead club.  Tim landed 2 nice steelhead.  I think both will be back for another trip on the Trinity.  I got to get ready for Sac.  I will see you at the show.  Fish On!!!!!!

Trinity River 1-15-07

Love to see someone catch their first steelhead.  Marty is a C.I.F.F. member.  Marty won my trip at this year's dinner.  Marty and his son Tim have never caught a steelhead.  We had a tough start, losing the first 4 fish.  Marty came thru landing this nice female.  It will be Tim's turn tomorrow.  Fish ON!!!!!

Trinity River  1-14-07

Back to work on the Trinity. I had a great time in San Mateo.  Looking forward to Sacramento on Thursday.  Check out K.C. steelhead on the fly today.  We landed 5 steelhead today.  It is cold!!!!! Check out the ice on the river.  Stay warm!!!!

Trinity River 1-5-07

Cold. Cold...Cold...and then Sunny.  I looked at the temp. on the car.  It said 23 degrees at 7:00 a.m.  I figured it was about 18 degrees on the water.  We had ice in the first 5 eyes of  the G-Loomis rods.  Shelia had to show John how to do it again.  Nice job Shelia.  I will be in San Mateo on Friday.  Seminar is at 1:30.  I will be in Sep's booth during the day.  Thanks  Steve

Trinity River 1-3-06

Mike got his first steelhead in California today.  We had rain on and off.  Mike liked the heater and rain top on the drift boat.  Both of Mike's adult steelhead were wild.  Great sign of fish to come.

Trinity River 1-2-06

Happy New Year!!!!!!!

We had a change in our fishing plans for today.  We were going to fish the Sac on last time. Our friend Jason got sick, probably from fishing the American opener.  We were out for about 4 hours.  Bill steelhead weighted in at 8 lbs,.  We broke off another nice fish, sorry Wayne. Rain is coming, this is needed.  Fish On!!!
