2006 Fishing Report

Trinity River 1-2-06

Happy New Year!!!!!!!

We had a change in our fishing plans for today.  We were going to fish the Sac on last time. Our friend Jason got sick, probably from fishing the American opener.  We were out for about 4 hours.  Bill steelhead weighted in at 8 lbs,.  We broke off another nice fish, sorry Wayne. Rain is coming, this is needed.  Fish On!!!

Trinity River 12-30-06

We fished yesterday on the Sacramento and today Jason fished the Trinity for steelhead.  I don't think Jason will be leaving the Trinity soon.  This was Jason's first time steelhead fishing on the river.  We got into some nice steelhead today.  The weather is still very cold out.

Sacramento River 12-29-06

Ok Santa....... all's I wanted was a 60 lbs salmon....Well not today.  The Poker Bar Boys were back on the Sac. We had 4 fish on, losing a nice big 45+lbs salmon  and landing a nice 18 Lbs hen.  Pressure on the Sacramento was very light.  The water was clearing, making for a good weekend bite to happen.

Trinity River 12-28-06

I hope everyone had a good X-Mas.  We had a good dose of rain.  The rain stopped Wednesday and started to clear quickly.  Gary and Mike were ready to go catch some steelhead.  The whole day was really cold!!!!  Check out the picture with the frost. We had a really good day....Boat pressure is heavy with the holidays.  I am going to the Sac. for a 60lbs salmon, I am hoping,.  I wrote a letter to Santa....Fish On!!!

Trinity River 12-21-06

We got snow today....That's all good for the river.  The very first hole we had our first fish.  Rich released a nice 5 lbs male.  We got into the second hole and a good 12lbs steelhead broke water just tail dancing.  Weather cold and foggy =  good fishing.  Phil followed up with this beautiful hatchery hen.  After a couple of pictures, we released her.  I hope everyone has a great X-Mas.  Fish On!!!!!

Trinity River 12-18-06

Cold...Cold...Cold...It has been cold on the river in the a.m. this week.  The river is clear from Lewiston to Canyon Creek (Junction City).  The fish have moved with this last storm.  The Hatchery on Thursday got 600+ steelhead.  Make sure you have your dates before I go to the show.  I had a great weekend!!!!!!!!!    Fished the Trinity and Sacramento Rivers. Steelhead -VS- Salmon,  tough choice.  I am going with steelhead unless salmon is over 50 lbs..  Check out the double steelhead we landed Saturday.  Both fish hit the plugs seconds apart.  One was a $10.00 fish, nice tip Gary. Ha Ha.  I will post again before X-Mas.  Keep warm.  Fish On!!

As a guide, you get to fish with some interesting people, this is one of those times.  Gordon and Sean are  two good fisherman.  These two guys made me laugh and enjoy what we were going.  We had 3 bald eagles fly just over our head.  Fishing is good, but the sunny weather is not good for us.  Don't leave home without two coats.  It is damn cold in the a.m. This one picture is Gordon fighting a steelhead and stopping to get a drink...."No problem Steve, I got him".  That's just a small part of a great couple of days.  I have them  a 1/2 day tomorrow, I need to rest up.  Check our Sean 2 big steelheads...Fat!!!

Trinity River 11-25-06

Fish On!!!!That's what's going on the Trinity river right now.  The steelhead action is great!!!,  even over the weekend with all the extra people of the river.  The fly guys where working hard for the take downs.  I have been running plugs.  When the rod tip hits the water with a slam, just pick up the rod and fight the fish.  Snow is coming over the next 2 days.  Rain and snow will only help the river flows increase.  Make sure you have your dates, don't miss out!!!

Trinity River 11-21-06

The rain finally made it down on us today.  That was not going to stop Allen and his son Mitch from fishing. We had the rain top up.   Mitch had not landed a steelhead before today.  Mitch hooked 4 landing 3.  I wish all first timers were that lucky.  We also caught a "dinky fish" as Mitch called it, 15 minutes later the 13 lbs salmon made it to the boat.  I hope everyone has a good Turkey day.  I will be back on the water Friday.  Fish On!!!

Trinity River 11-19-06

Had a tough day on Saturday.  We were down river and the river flows were up.  Fly fishing was a little tough.  I moved to the middle river today and found the fish.  We landed 3 nice adults fly fishing.  The rain is coming on Monday and Tuesday, we need it.  Steelhead action will keep improving with changeable weather coming in.  Damon's first steelhead in 20 yrs and Casey's first.  I hope Andrew found some food after fishing.  Fish On!!!

Sacramento River11-16-06

What can I say about this?????  Fat Pig comes to mind.  I said I wanted a 50Lbs salmon Jason.  We almost did it boys.  Had a great time on The Sac.  We were the only boat out.  We hooked 5, landing 3.  Had the boys from Poker Bar out with my buddy Darren and Jason.  What else does a guide do on his day off.........Thanks  Jason!!!!!!  You still have time to catch a salmon.  Just call....

Trinity River 11-15-06

Fished with my buddy Darren today.  Happy Birthday you old fart!!!  We got a late start today, about 11:30.  It only took 30 minutes a we had a hot fish.  This fish hit the plug like a train....Flipped out of the water with a nice bright red stripe.  Everything sounds good, right?...It was...Darren hooked and landed a male 8lbs Coho salmon.  The silvers are all over the river.  Fishing conditions are great.  We have some color in the water and lots of fish all over.

Trinity River 11-13-06

Rain, snow and cold weather......Steelhead season.  I had computer and phone problems over the weekend.  Please send any emails if I did not answer you back.  The river got what it needed the last couple of days.  The river is raising and that is a good thing.  Pressure has been heavy over the weekend.  We are getting 1 to 4 steelhead per trip.  The numbers will get better with more fish pushing up and some color in the water.  Fish on!!!   Steve

 Trinity River 11-7-06

The fish are on the move.  We are seeing fish moving in the middle of the day.  They are mostly silver salmon, with a few steelhead  Steelhead fishing pressure has been heavy the last few days.  Action is coming to all types of fishing.  The rain is here and more is coming.  Things look good for the next couple of weeks.

Trinity River 10-31-06

Do you remember your first steelhead?  I got to watch Jerry catch his first one today.  We had another 2 on, but the fish won those fights.  We released a nice female salmon.  The weather is changing for Wed-Sat.  We need some rain.  Fish On!!!!

Trinity River 10-29-06

Fish are still moving into the system.  The salmon are still in good shape.  We are still getting a few nice Jack's.  The steelhead action is picking up.  The salmon are moving onto their beds.  Steelhead are moving slow with the clear water.  Check out the pictures from the last few days.  Rain is coming this week!!!!!!!!

Trinity River 10-25-06

Sorry for the delay in reports.  It is funny when the other fisherman on the bank tell me to update my reports.  Fishing as you can guess with the lack of reports is awesome the last 12 days.  Here are a few steelhead.  We have landed over 50 adult steelhead so far this season.  Salmon jacks are still in the system.  Watch out for silver salmon.  They are everywhere right now.  Fishing is good from Lewiston to Del Loma.  Take your time, the water is slow and clear!!!  Make sure you have your dates!!!!

Trinity River 10-13-06

Doug Cobb day on the Trinity River.  Hello Megan!!  Doug was out on Friday the 13th.  Bad Luck ???  Not today.  We went 5 for 9 on fish today.  We landed a double.  We watched a big salmon toss a plug (twice). We did not get any steelhead, but Doug got a work out.  The fish all came on plugs.  All fish were released, not before a nice picture.  The fish are up and down the river.

Trinity River 10-12-06

Back to the river today.  We got into the first hole with 6 people on the bank....Wow I have not seen 6 people on the bank all week.  We passed on fishing the 1st hole and made it down to the next hole.  We landed 3 salmon and lost a big steelhead.  Mike's first steelhead did 2 360* flips and tossed the hook.  Mike said" I did everything right"  I said "I know" that's a steelhead.  The fish are fighting hard.  The smolts are heavy into the river, this makes roe fishing rough.  Check out Paul's fish.  This is a Coho...not a steelhead!!! Make sure you check the mouth color before taking a fish.  The bottom is a salmon.  Fish On!!!!

Whiskeytown Lake 10-11-06

Finished our last trip of Whiskeytown for the season today.  We got off to a nice start landing a nice red male.  Things looked like were going to get into fish.  We got 2 more females and the bite stopped....dead...We fished for a couple more hours and called it a day.  What a great season on Whiskeytown this year.

Trinity River 10-10-06

The Trinity river is fishing great.  I will let the pictures tell the story.  This is the last 4 days on the river We are getting both salmon and steelhead on our trips.  The fish are in Junction City area and moving fast.  Our steelhead season is going to be big again.  Don't miss out!!!!

Trinity River 10-6-06

Fire got some rain today...River is on fire with fish!!!  We have salmon and steelhead from the top to the bottom of the river.  We have released some big salmon the last few days.  Check out the steelhead today.  Jim is 82 years young, with his first Trinity river steelhead.  The Coho salmon are in the river now.  All Coho and adult kings must be released.   I only have a few dates left in Oct.  Fish On!!!!

Trinity River 10-1-06

What a great weekend on the river.  The weir is down and the Klamath is pushing fish up.  We caught  and released 22 salmon this weekend.  3 fish over 20+ lbs.  Pete caught and released a nice 26lbs hen.  Ken finally  got a fish over 20 lbs to the boat.  Lots of 1/2 lbs steelhead in the water.  The waters from Lewiston to Del Loma are holding fish.  Just Jacks salmon may be taken, NO ADULTS.  I am seeing fish over 30+lbs moving up river.  I hope this year ends all the problems.  Fish On!!!!

Whiskeytown Lake 9-27-06

Look who made it out to Whiskeytown today.  I had the "King" and "Queen" of trolling, Sep and Marilyn.   We went right to work under the 299 bridge.  We had 2 nice take downs, but no fish.  After an adjustment (slower speed) by Sep, we were into fish.  Our first fish was the largest of our season,  19 7/8 inches.  We landed 7 other fish, losing 2 at the boat and off the water at 11:30.  I am back to the river after steelhead.

Trinity River 9-26-06

Do I have to explain anything about this picture????....What a way to get into the steelhead season.  Jim caught some nice salmon, but this made the trip.  A true fisherman released this fish to make more.  We caught this fish right after a raft floated right over the same water.  Good day on salmon, we kept our jack's and released 2 nice adults.  Open day's in Oct  16,17, 18,19,20,30,31.

Whiskeytown Lake 9-25-06

Someone finally beat me into the lake today..Oh no just a bass fisherman. We went right back to where we left off on Friday. We got our first kokanee before we got the other line wet. It happen to be the biggest at 18 1/2 inches. We ended up hooking 13 and landing 7. We were under the 299 bridge in 80'+ of water. Our speed was 1.2 mph with no wind today. The color has not changed. The Sep's 4/0 gold star-lite and a Sep's Hot Orange kokanee kandy. I have fished this all season!!!!! You better have this set-up if you are coming up here!!! Add some Pro-Cure Kokanee or Predator and corn. The fish still look good. Check out the pictures.

Whiskeytown Lake  9-22-06

We were the only car in the parking lot today. We had a tough start today going 1 for 7. We made it up on the next 8 fish, only losing one. The fish are in good shape and still near the 299 bridge. The fish are DEEP 75'-110' of water. Our trolling speed was .9 to 1.3 mph. The color has not changed, star-lite and hot orange kokanee kandy. Keep your leader under 10 inches. My guys today, fished 2 days on the river and finished up on the lake today. They booked next year for the same time. Don't miss out

Trinity River

These are my Del Loma boys without Mort, (next year Mort)  Tom and Bruce were my first clients on the Trinity.  This year Tom's father in Law from Germany joined us along with Keith.  We ended up with 15 salmon and one steelhead.  We will be on Whiskeytown later this week.

Trinity River / Feather 9-19-06

Salmon are moving up the river.  I have been on a good school of fresh Jack's.  We are starting to see the first of the winter salmon.  All adults must be released.  Steelhead action has been slow the last couple of days.  I will post some pictures.  I have fished the Low Flow on the Feather with good results.  There are a lot of dark salmon in the low flow.  Steelhead are in the low flow eating eggs.

Whiskeytown / Trinity river

Whiskeytown is still fishing well.  Trinity is picking up.  We are getting jack's on our trips and 1 or 2 adults salmon.  We lost a big salmon yesterday.  I say "it's better to love, then to never love at all".  Steelhead count is up with some 7+lbs counted at the weir.  Check out this German brown 6 lbs. who wanted eggs for dinner.  We have another fire in Big Flat.  Have a safe holiday...Fish On!!

Whiskeytown 8-29-06

Don't leave fish to find fish.........The lake has been fishing well.  The fish have moved into deep water.  The fish are still growing.  We got 2 at 17 /1/2 and 18 inches. We are getting fish in the a.m. and waiting until about 10:00 for the next bite.  Here are a few pictures of this weeks fish.  Joe and his son Peter, Joan and One eyed Simon

Whiskeytown 8-20-06

Back to the lake today.  We hooked and landed our first fish before I could even get the second rod out.  The fish came in at 17 inches.  Floyd and Robin had 6 fish in the first hour.  The fish we were working turned off and we traveled to the dam area to find some more.  We landed a couple more in the 14 inch range and headed back to the 299 bridge.  I found fish at 55', but it took about a hour and the bite was back on.  I finally got one over 18 inches today.  The fish broke off right at the boat, but the net was under him.  Check out the fish!!!

Whiskeytown / Trinity River 8-19-06

Much better week on the river.  The browns are hungry.  We have started to see salmon pushing up.  We landed 2 adult wild steelhead and lost a salmon at the boat over 15lbs.  The weather is getting cooler at night.  Whiskeytown is still wild open.  I am finding fish all over the lake.

Whiskeytown 8-12-06

Great day on the water again.  Kathy got to get her first kokanee.  Everyone always says" I didn't know this lake had all these beautiful fish".  There were about 10 boats working the dam and 299 bridge area today.  Our limits came by 9:30 a.m.  We had lost a double and landed this one.  The fish were all at 50'-60' mark.  Trinity has been tough.  I had one salmon Thursday and none on Friday.  Fish On!!!!

Whiskeytown 8-8-06

Back to lake again today.  We got some rain/ lightning  yesterday.  We got on the water around 6:15.  We were the only boat fishing for the first 1 1/2 hours.  We had 8 fish in the box in the first 2 hours.  We caught some nice kokanee with the biggest measuring in at 17 1/2 inches.  This is Floyd's first time kokanee fishing.  Check out his smile.

Trinity River /Whiskeytown 8-05-06

Whiskeytown is putting some nice kokanee out right now.  The fish are running deep, but the work is worth it.  Sal was a first time kokanee fisherman today,  we got an easy limit for him.  I will be back on the lake until the fishing turns on the Trinity.  We are working hard for 1 to 3 chances for salmon.  Steelie and browns are showing up.  Conditions will improve with the fish starting to show up in the Klamath.  Fish on!!!

Trinity River Whiskeytown Lake 7-30-06

I wish I could show you all our salmon we are getting here, but that's not the case.  The salmon fishing is slow.  I am seeing a good number of steelhead in the river.  The count at the weir is down for 3 year old salmon.  The brown and steelie count is up.  I will be fishing for salmon and steelhead the next couple of days.

Whiskeytown on the other hand, is putting out some big kokanee.  I saw some of my friends out today.  We had a lot of wind in the a.m.  The bridge was the best place to get out of the wind.  I have some open dates to fish the lake for kokanee.  Great fun!!!

Trinity River 7-25-06

We are working hard in the 100+ degree heat for fish.  The good news is the steelhead are here.  The salmon fishing is slow.  The count today at the weir was 20 salmon, 24 browns and 26 steelhead.  Walt wanted to make my the web site.  He did a great job landing a steelhead.  We found the "King" fisherman on the river today.  We had 2 flying over us.

Trinity river 7-22-06

Hot Hot Hot!!! The weather and some of the fishing.  The water flows are down to 450cfs now.  The river has changed with the higher flows.  I have been moving around on the river finding fish.  We are having to work hard and have to make our takedowns count.  The great news is that I found steelhead this week.  Steelhead on our ultra light gear is awesome!!!!  Our steelhead season looks like if going to be  great.  Make sure you have your dates!!!

Trinity river 7-16-06

We can now say it's salmon time.  The water is going to fall into place this week.  I have fished the river from top to bottom this week.  We are finding 1 to 3  fish per trip, up to 12 lbs..  These numbers will only go up.  I saw some nice size schools pushing up.  The weir is going up Wednesday in Junction City.

Trinity River 7-10-06

Just starting our season on the Trinity river. Frank Headly of Brentwood landed a nice 6+lbs German Brown. We landed 5 Browns and 21 Rainbows. We hooked one salmon, but was only on for a short time.  The water flows are dropping 100 cfs a day now. The fishing will improve next week, making the salmon move into the holes. Roe and plugs will do the trick. I will be fishing the river and kokanee on Whiskeytown lake.  Fish On!!

Whiskeytown lake 7-1-06

I got a break to get my boys out on to the lake today.  We are getting the kokanee over 17 inches now.  The fish are moving into deeper water.  It took changing colors today and then changing again.  This is a great chance to get you family out and get them fish.  Happy 4th  Fish on!!!!

Whiskeytown Lake 6-29-06

Well we had no wind in the a.m. today.  The water was like glass.  I had Erik and his family out today.  Rachael caught her first fish.  Erik Jr. just wanted more fish.  Andrew helped find the fish and drive the boat.  We found a good number of fish today.  Erik left Matt at work, so I knew we were going to get fish today ( Sorry Matt ).  We hooked 22 fish, landing 12 kokanee, releasing 1 small kokanee and landing 2 brook trout.  This is something every family should do.  Trinity river will start fishing after the long weekend.  Be safe !!!  Fish On!!!!  Steve

Lewiston Lake  6-26-06

What does a guide do on his day off???  Go fishing of course.  Went out go and check out the kokanee in Lewiston.  The south end of the lake still has a lot of crap in it.  The kokanee were all small.  Went to check out the other part of the lake and look what I found.  We landed 3 nice fish, had a good 5 other take downs.  You are going to find easy limits on Lewiston.  I was off the water at 11:00 a.m.

Whiskeytown Lake 6-24-06

Action on the lake keeps improving.  The winds stayed down and we found fish all over the lake.  The Trinity is almost ready to go.  We are ready for salmon season.  We will be fishing the Lewiston Tournament on July 15th.  Come on out and check it out.  Thanks Steve

Whiskeytown Lake 6-06-06

I finally got onto the lake today.  We hit the water at 6:00 a.m.  10 minutes later, we were into fish.  There were about 10 boats.  We saw over 80 fish caught.  We caught 12 fish in 3 1/2 hours.  The action was very strong until the wind came up around 9:00.  The fish are getting fat.  I will be out on Berryessa fishing the the California Inland Fisheries Tournament this weekend.  I have some days open on Whiskeytown to get into these fighting fish.  Check out how fat these fish are getting.  This fish measured in at 15 inches.

Sacramento River

Over the last 4 years, Doug Cobb has fished with me.  We caught Doug his first salmon, steelhead and now striper with me.  Doug's face tells the whole story.  We had a good day on the river.  The weather was warm.  Stripers are still in the Colusa area.  You will have to be on the water early or late.  We were using both plugs and live bait.  The cut bait was working well for the boat sitting on anchors.  5 weeks until salmon season on the Trinity.  Make sure we have your dates all in.  Fish On!!!

Sacramento River

I will be back striper fishing this week.  The Trinity is going at 8500 cfs.  We got the water in the lakes.  Fishing on the lake has been tough with all the flows.  Wiskeytown is putting out some kokanee.  I hope to get a day or two out there next week.  I have started booking salmon on the Trinity in July.  We are going to have some fish in the river with the higher flows.  Feather has salmon in the outlet hole right now.  Spinners from the bank is your best bet right now.  Thanks  Fish On!!!   Steve

Sac  and Feather Rivers

Well it's striper time now!!!!!!!!!!!!!  I spend the last 3 days on the water.  I fished the Sac, Feather and Yuba for striper.  The Feather is where we found the most action.  Everyone is getting stripers.  Plugs, minnows, jiggers and anchor with bait was working.  The boat pressure is heavy at times, things will improve with the Sac starting to fish better this week.  I have some open dates still.  Check out some of our fish.  Fish On!!!!

Trinity River 5-6-06

Well the river is up and only going higher.  The warm weather is melting the snow fast.  I will be heading striper fishing Wednesday.  I will be on the Feather or Sac, not sure yet.  I have been fishing Lewiston with good results.  The bite is only in the am right now,  you better not be sleeping in. I will have pictures and reports at the end of the week.

Trinity River 4-22-06

Here are the water flow for this season.  I will be booking salmon trip after July 1st.  The water is going to push the salmon up.  We are going to have a good year.  Make sue to have you dates booked now!!!  I will be on Trinity, Lewiston and Wiskeytown next week.  I will be striper fishing when the Sac. comes down.  Wiskeytown is 1/2 muddy with all the rain water pushing in.  Trinity looks good, water is just a little fast.  Trout action has been good a Lewiston and Trinity.  Talk to everyone soon.  Fish On!!!  Steve

Lewiston Lake 4-8-09

I have gone into the bottled water business.  I place the bottles on my back porch, come back in 10 minutes and they are filled.  Ok enough rain now..  All the rivers, lakes and creeks are full.  The only place to fish is on the lake right now.  The Sac is running way too fast.  Striper and salmon are moving up.  I will be striper fishing as soon as the Sac flows come down.  Trinity is almost full.  The rainbows are moving into the creeks and spawning now.  Lewiston is in great shape.  We have been using the rain top and gear, but the fishing is good.  The flows will be coming up in the next couple of weeks.  I will post them when I get them.  I think we got our salmon season on the Trinity all worked out.  Make sure you have your dates for salmon season!!!  Fish on!!!

Trinity & Lewiston Lake 3-28-06

I had my friend Frank up with some of his clients to get a day of fishing in.  All the rivers are ugly right now.  We need the Sac. to come down before striper fishing will start.  We did not land a lot of fish, but we did get a few.  Andre released a 9 and 15 lb rainbow that were ready to spawn.  Andre is the owner off Pine Cove.

Trinity River / Lakes  3-22-06

The weather has not been nice to us this season.  I hope the rain is over soon.  I have been playing around the house and fishing the lakes.  I will be taking a run to see how striper fishing is looking.  The water flows for the Trinity river will be up soon.  We are looking at flows up to 8500cfs this year.  I can't wait to see how the river will start to change and salmon fishing improve.   Take care and FISH ON!!!

Trinity River / Lakes 3-11-06

The weather has been wild this week.  We got rain, snow, sun and low temps.  The river color is just right.  The flows are all down and safe to run.  The lakes have been looking good.  We are finding good numbers of fish in both lakes.  I will be fishing the lakes and getting ready for trout and striper on the Sacramento.  Fish On !!

Trinity River  3-6-06

Well I have had enough of the rain for this season.  The river is back up, but will be fishable in a couple of days.  Over the weekend a few nice steelhead and German brown were taken in the upper river.  I will be fishing both the lakes and rivers for the next couple of weeks.  Fish On!!!  Steve

Trinity River 2-25-06

A recap of the last couple of days on the river.  We have been getting a lot of 1/2 pounders and 1 or 2 adults.  The fishing has been fun on the ultra lights.  We have weather coming in over Sun-Wednesday.  The Trinity is now fishable all over.  I would make my way down rivers and look for the below the north fork.  I am fishing the lake and will have pictures up tomorrow.  Monday the family and I are off to Disneyland for the week.  I am starting to book the lakes and striper fishing.  Fish on !!

Trinity River 2-21-06

The weather was very nice to start today.  That is not a good sign steelhead fishing.  Cliff and Shirley had a great time for their first in a drift boat.  Shirley landed and released her first steelhead.  We had a good day catching and releasing  a good 16+ 1/2 pounders and 2 nice adults.

Trinity River 2-20-06

The drift boat has been frozen at the start of our drift trips the last couple of days.  Saturday I had Pat and Sean on board.  We landed some nice 1/2 pounders, but no adults.  Today Tom and Henry had a good day. We landed 8   1/2 pounders and a nice adult steelhead.  Tom also a nice big 24 inch Brown.  Water is really clear right now.  I have gone to light gear and fluorocarbon leaders.  Got to see a big down runner male today.  Fish On!!!

Triity River 2-18-06

We had a first time steelhead fisherman today.  Stephen from Sacramento caught and released this nice male wild steelhead.  I think he is now hooked.  Stephen said Don wanted to call the trip off because it was snowing and cold.  Don and I know who really was worried ( Oscar).   Stephen now knows why we like the weather cold and wet out for steelhead fishing.  We caught some nice 1/2 pounders again today.  The river is getting clear very fast.  It snowed, rained and had a little sun on us today.  Fish On !!

Trinity River  2-17-06

The flows are finally down to 300 cfs out of the dam.  It was damn cold on the water today.  Charlie blocked he heat so I did not get any back to me.  We had a good day on the water today.  We landed 12 or more 1/2 pounders. A couple nice German Browns and released this nice  female steelhead.  Weather looks cold for the next couple of days again.  Fish On!!!

Trinity River 2-16-06

The water dropped today and is on it's way to 300cfs.  The water is clearing fast.  Cliff and Mark worked hard on the first fish.  The brown had 2 plugs on it.  Marks in the mouth and Cliff on its side.  Both are taking credit for the catch.  We got 2 nice browns and a wild steelhead.  River is looking good, but really cold out.

Trinity River 2-15-06

Ken and Katrina both had nice steelhead on today.  The bad part is that after flipping out of the water, both were lost.  That's why we fish for them, but landing and getting some pictures is better.

Trinity River  2-14-06

I had Jim up from Napa today.  We had a lot of take downs today.  I think as Jim says, it was the new straight hooks I was using.  All the fish today were 1/2 pounders, but lots fun and action.  We had one big take down, but no luck  The other boat had a nice 7 lbs steelhead.  Water flows are changing tomorrow.

Trinity River 2-13-06

Gary fished a 1/2 day today.  We got 4 fish 2 browns and 2 rainbows.  We did not get big fish, but Gary's luck is done for 2006 season.

Trinity River 2-12-06

I am back on the water of the Trinity river.  I guess the fish gods were looking out for us.  We had 12 fish on today, not a bad day.  The fish ranged from 3 to 17 lbs.  Gary (a.k.a Luckiest man on the Trinity) caught and released the largest steelhead I have had on the Trinity.  We caught this male in about 5 feet of water.  After making 2 runs over 50 yards, we finally landed him.  This steelhead took us down river about 500 yards.  We were using our ultra-lights with 8 lbs test.  What a Fight!!!!! I still have a couple of days still open.

Trinity River/ Trinity Lake 2-6-06

Back to the lake again today.  We left off where we did last time.  The fish are healthy in Trinity lake.  We saw another 4+ lbs rainbow caught.  The best news, the Trinity river will be back at 1100 cfs on Friday.  I can not wait to get back on to the river.  Please call to book your trips.

Trinity River/ Trinity Lake 2-3-06

We went up to Trinity Lake today with Vince.  We got on the water about 9:30.  We pulled off the lake at 3:30.  We caught  easy limits of rainbow today.  Check out the size of the rainbow, not a steelhead.  This male checked in at 6 lbs. We caught his friend at 5 1/2 lbs.  We were working the downriggers on  the upper end of the lake.  Looks like no rain for the next week.  I will be steelhead fishing if flows permit.  If the rain gods change their mind, I will go right back to the lakes.  Fish On !!!

Trinity River/ Lewiston Lake 2-1-06

Well folks, we are going to get on the Trinity sometime in 2006.  I will only go out  on the river when the conditions are right.  The water flows are too high.  The color is good upriver, but the water is too fast.  We are spending our days on Lewiston lake.  We are getting limits of trout.  The cold water in Lewiston, make these  good eating fish.   I am looking to get on the river Monday.  I will be out fishing Trinity Lake the next couple of days.  Fish On!!!!  Steve

Trinity River 1-30-06

Ok rain, this is enough now.  The river flows are up with the rain fall.  The weather looks good after Wednesday.  We are going to fish the lake for the next couple of days.  We hope to be back on the river Wednesday.  Fish On   Steve

Lewiston Lake 1-25-06

Made it onto the lake at 11:30 -3:30 today.  We hooked and released 7 nice fish.  One of the trout is making it way to the BBQ.  The water flows are coming down.  The weather is just a light rain and cold.  We had the lake to our self again.  I am going to check out Trinity lake and back to the river for steelhead.  Took some nice 35mm pictures today. We will get them up soon.  Fish On!!

Trinity River 1-24-06

The best news all steelhead season so far.  The water is going to be down to 1900 cfs on Saturday.  We will now book our steelhead trips on the Trinity starting Saturday. Fish On!!  Steve

Trinity River 1-23-06

Well we are back and time to get fishing.  The good news first, the Trinity is on its way down tonight.  We will be at 2500 cfs Thursday.  The water color is prefect.  We will be back fishing on the river next week.  I will be on the lakes for the next couple of days. It was good seeing everyone at the shows.

Trinity River / Lewiston Lake 1-16-06

The color on the river looks good.  The problem is the flow has not come down.  We have been fishing the new boat the last couple of days.  The fishing is good, with temp at 44.5 on the water. I am heading to Sacramento with snow on it's way here tomorrow.  I will see you at the show.

I don't have to say anything about this.   We need to make room for this next storm.  I fished the lake again today.  Brought the camera this time!!!  Both the lakes are seeing good numbers of fish, with no pressure.  Check them out, all on light tackle.  See you in San Mateo tomorrow.

Lewiston Lake 1-10-06

The river is coming up again.  We are releasing water out of the lakes for the next 10 days.  After that they are hopefully going to reduce the flows.  We saw 2 fly boats putting in at the bridge.  The river at 2500 is not the place to be right now.   I went to the lake today.  In 3 hours, we caught and released 6 fish.  We are the only fisherman on the lake.  I want to show you my new toy.  We are going to be updating our web page and changing some things around.  I am going to stay closer to home with my family.  I am going to open up the lakes and stay local this year.  We will be striper fishing on the Sac to Kokanee on Whiskeytown lake.  2006 we will offer both  days on the river or lake fishing.  I will be in San Mateo Thursday and the new boat will be on the water Saturday.  Thank you for all the support and I will see you all soon.  Fish On   Steve

Trinity River 1-6-06

Happy New Year everyone!!!  25 inches rain in 3 days.  That's a lot of rain......The Trinity lakes have been releasing water at 1550 cfs into the river.  The river is going up to 2500 cfs.  We are going to be on hold until the flows come down. I am going to fish the lake too.  I wish I had better news to start the year.  The hatchery has been taking eggs the last 2 Tuesdays.  We have about 1500 steelhead at the hatchery.  I may have to take my pole next time...Ha Ha.  Be safe   Steve

Trinity River 12-28-05

Well we have fished the river for the last time in 2005.  The Trinity River release out of the dam is 1500 cfs.  When you add in the creeks, the water flow in front of my house is almost 5000cfs.  The count of steelhead at the hatchery is over 1400 so far.  They will start taking eggs now.  I plan on fishing the lake the next couple of clear days.  Have a safe New Years.  Fish On!!!
