2005 Fishing Report
Trinity
River 12-28-05 Well
we have fished the river for the last time in
2005. The Trinity River release out of the dam
is 1500 cfs. When you add in the creeks, the
water flow in front of my house is almost
5000cfs. The count of steelhead at the hatchery
is over 1400 so far. They will start taking eggs
now. I plan on fishing the lake the next couple
of clear days. Have a safe New Years. Fish
On!!! Trinity
River 12-20-05 Well
I asked for rain, not 5 inches in 2 days. The
River is running high and muddy. I hope to see
it clear up Thursday or Friday. Please email me
if you want a copy of the new video and can wait for
the Sportsman show. Kyle and Jordan has been
working hard putting them together. I will be
out on the water Thursday or Friday based on
conditions. Fish On !!
Steve
Trinity
River 12-12-05 Action
on the Trinity has been good. Both fly fishing
and conventional has been working. The adults
steelhead are running from 5 to 8 lbs. The steelhead
we are catching are mostly hatchery. The wild
fish are coming with more weather on it's way.
The steelhead season looks good again this year, don't
miss out !! Fish On Steve
Trinity
River 12-5 & 6-05
The
last couple of days on the river has been cold.
I am talking about the weather. The steelhead
fishing has been great. I have Gary up for the
last couple of days. John, I know you are
counting your days left at work. Gary started
off again by losing the first fish. A BIG
steelhead. Gary has made up for it and
more. We have been fishing roe and plugs.
Most of the pressure on the river is coming from the
fly boats. I have been filming and will have the
DVD on the Trinity ready for the International Sportsman
Expos. Check out the fish from the last 2
days. Gary's big fish came in at 11 lbs.
Gary and I will be out again tomorrow. I still
have good dates open, don't miss out!!!
Fish On!!!

Trinity
River 11-29-05
Does
it get better then this??. Our boats have a
force air heaters and rain covers. This is
steelhead weather.
Trinity
River 11-28-05 It
is snowing right now. I will take
it. We are looking at rain thru Thursday.
That is what the Trinity needs. The weekend was
ok. Charlie and Joe hooked and released 2 nice
silver salmon. That's right silver (Coho) salmon, they
went 14 and 7 lbs. The rain can down just about
all day. Saturday the water came up about 3 inches
and the color started to darken. The fishing was
just tough. Thank god for the heater, right
Rick. Temps are getting cold and the weather
wet. These are the condition I like to
see. Fish On !!!
Trinity
River 11-21-05 Your
guide got his first cold of the season. I have
been down and out. The river is very low and
clear. The steelhead are down river and moving
everyday. We are watching the temps get colder
and we have a chance for rain Friday. I hope
everyone has good holiday. I will be with my
family for a few days and right back on the water
Friday. Be safe and Happy Thanksgiving.
Fish On Trinity
River 11-13-05 The
Trinity river is clear and has been tough.
Saturday I hade Mike Sr. and Jr. We got two take
downs and watched a nice steelhead toss another plug
out of his mouth. When you only get a few
chances, it hurts when you lose one. Moved
over to the Sacramento to chase rainbows. Mike
and Cindy did well landing a fish today. Check
out Mike with a nice Sac. rainbow. Back to the Trinity
fly fishing. Fish On !!!
Trinity
River 11-11-05 The
last 2 days have been a little tough. We are
getting the hook ups, but not landing the big
fish. That part of fishing makes it tough.
Lots of fly fisherman on the river today. Fish
are in the river, but were a getting clear water
again. I filmed the bald eagle eating a salmon
today. I am video taping for a new DVD.
Fish On !! Trinity
River 11-09-05 We
got the rain we needed. The river is in great
shape right now. The flows are up and the fish
are moving. I got a couple of needed days
off. I will be on the river all week.
Thanks for checking in...Fish On !!
Trinity
River 11-05-05 The
rain came down for the last couple of days. The
rain started up first thing today. The river has
come up nicely. The color could be a little
darker, but it will work. Peter got us started
with a nice wild female. Ken lost a big fish 2
years ago with me. Ken says he still thinks
about it. Well he has 2 big fish to think about
now. I'm sorry Ken, that fish took out 100 ft of
line in seconds. We chased it down, and then he
broke us off. The fish cleared the water 3
times.
Trinity
River 11-2-05 After
a couple of nice days off, we were back out on the
river. In the first hole, Sandi hooked on to a
nice steelhead. After the first 360 flip, the
plug was out. Hooked on steelhead Sandi is
now. Sandi hooked 2 more, but landing them was
another fight. Stu and Sandi hooked and released
a couple nice salmon. We could use some more
rain to color up the water.
Trinity
River 10-28-05 We
had a great time out today. The rain came all
day, who cares when you are catching fish. We'll
start off with 3 salmon: 15,17,20 lbs. all clean
fish. 3 steelhead 7,8,11 lbs. The boys
worked hard today. Vincent pulled 4 steelhead
out of one run today. Lloyd had the big boy
today. We released this beautiful male. Paul
released a 15 lbs salmon. Paul released the 2
big salmon and kept a hatchery steelhead. David
followed up with a nice hatchery steelhead. Still
raining and it will only help conditions. Fish
On!!

Trinity
River 10-27-05 I
had 2 boats on the river today. I was quit
surprised at the condition of the salmon. We
hooked and released 2 nice salmon 17 and 15 lbs.
Lloyd was the man for salmon today. David landed
2 steelhead about 7lbs each. One was wild and
one a hatchery. Paul and Wayne hooked a few, but
did not land them. We will be back out again
tomorrow. The rain is coming down. Thank
you rain gods!!

I
want you read this and then dial the up-to-date phone
number. This is why we shake our heads about
what best for the fish. The salmon season closed
last Friday at sunset. I know because of this
email. If I did not have email, but called the
number. The salmon season would still be open to
me. I understand people have received tickets
for keeping salmon. I would call the numbers
below. To:

Subject: Portions of Klamath and Trinity to Close Oct.
22 for
AdultSalmon as Anglers Reach Quota
Department of Fish and Game
NEWS RELEASE FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE October 18, 2005

Portions of Klamath and Trinity to Close Oct. 22 for
Adult Salmon as Anglers Reach Quota
Because it's expected that anglers will have reached
the quota of adult
fall-run Chinook salmon on the Klamath and Upper
Trinity rivers by sundown
Friday Oct. 21, the Department of Fish and Game (DFG)
announced the closing
of the rivers to the take of adult fish beginning Oct.
22. The closed areas
extend on the Klamath River from above the Highway 96
Bridge at Weitchpec to
Iron Gate Dam, and on the Upper Trinity River from
above Cedar Flat to the
Old Lewiston Bridge.
No adult fish 22 inches total length may be taken
after the closure.
Anglers fishing the Klamath River upstream of the
Highway 96 Bridge at
Weitchpec (confluence with the Trinity River) to the
Interstate 5 bridge
near Yreka and Trinity River above Cedar Flat can
continue fishing for
"jack" salmon less than 22 inches total
length.
The quota for the lower Trinity River, from the
confluence with the Klamath
River to Cedar Flat, has not been met and therefore
anglers can continue to
harvest adult Chinook that are 22 inches total length
or larger.
DFG has determined that the adult fall-run Chinook
salmon spawning
escapement at Iron Gate Hatchery has exceeded 8,000
fish needed for
spawning. Therefore, the Klamath River above the
Interstate 5 Bridge to
3,500 feet below Iron Gate Dam will remain open to the
take of adult
Chinook.
DFG reminds anglers that Chinook salmon 22 inches
total length or larger may
not be retained in any section of the Klamath or
Trinity rivers on Tuesdays
and Wednesdays through Nov. 30.
Anglers may keep track of the status of open and
closed sections of the
Klamath and Trinity rivers by calling
(800)
564-6479.

Trinity
River 10-26-05 We
finally got a little rain last night. We need
some more. Yesterday I had a single out looking
for some steelhead up river. Steve released 2
salmon. The river is low and clear. I hope
the weather this week will improve steelhead
fishing. Fish On!!
Trinity
River 10-23-05 Here
is what's up on the Trinity. I was fly fishing
Thursday. We hooked a nice big steelhead and
lost him. We landed some small steelhead.
Bruce and Greg fished Friday up river. We hooked
5 fish and landing 0. Saturday and Sunday I had
Nelson and the birthday girl Pam. They were joined
by their friends Jack and Charlene. The girls
fished together. Pam started with a nice salmon
in the first hole. Charlene landed a wild 9lbs
steelhead in the same hole. Her first
steelhead. The boys followed with Nelson landing
a nice 8 lbs steelhead and a 25 Lbs salmon. We
took a ;lot of 35mm film and picture to follow.
Here is Nelson's steelhead. Salmon season is
CLOSED to ADULTS from DEL LOMA Up river. Fish
On!!!
Trinity
River 10-19-05 Stu,
I am sorry you missed the boat today. Ha HA.Neil
made me do it. We had a much better day
today. We hooked 2 steelhead and 5 salmon
today. Just look at this wild buck. Action
was good all over the river. It looks like
salmon season is going to close soon. Steelhead
here we come. Fish On!!!

Trinity
River 10-18-05 We
were fly fishing for steelhead today. Lloyd and
Bill fished hard today. We had a couple of
grabs, but no landed steelhead. The weather was
just perfect, not steelhead weather today. Fish
On!! Trinity
River 10-15-05 We
had the rain and wind come in last night. The
river became full of leaves and pine needles.
The water flows have been dropped to 300cfs.
Things were looking a little tough for today's
float. Gary and Kendra put their rain gear on
and got ready. When the conditions change, you
need to slow down and work the areas you know the fish
are in. Our hard work paid off for Kendra's
first caught salmon. Salmon counts look like we
have about 1 week left until the quota is
filled. We will see what happens. Fish On
!!!
Trinity
River 10-13-05 I
had Vic with me today. Vic had to reschedule his
trip from February. I don't think Vic was too
mad today. We hooked 8 fish landing 4
steelhead. Just look at the size of this buck
(wild ). What a great day. You better have
your dates for the steelhead season. FISH ON!!!!

Trinity
River 10-11-05 Ed
and Sue are here for a few days. With the
"no kill" on adult salmon on Tuesday and
Wednesday. The river was very quiet with
pressure. The fly fisherman were landing
steelhead in all the good runs today. We broke a
nice steelhead off on a plug. The fish shook the
plug cutting the line, then shook it out of his
mouth. I watched it all, the rod was in my
hands. My plug floated to the top of the
water. We had some nice take downs and released
a nice salmon. Until tomorrow. Fish On!!

Trinity
River 10-10-05 I
had the ladies from Texas looking for salmon. We
got just what they wanted, 2 nice salmon. We
released a nice wild steelhead. River is getting
into it's prime. Fish on !

Trinity
River 10-9-05 Matt
and Bob were out again today. We were caught and
releasing fish only today. It is a pleasure to
fish with people that respect and truly love to
fish. The fish gods look down and blessed us
with a 10lbs+ steelhead. Just it
out. We all got a picture of it. We saw
100 steelhead moving up the waters today.
Trinity
River 10-8-05 Fish
are moving all over the river. We went 6 for 12
today. Bob and Matt landed 2 nice salmon and 4
steelhead. The salmon went for dinner at Matt's
and the steelhead were all released. Fish On!!

Trinity
River 10-7-05 It
took Danny about 20 minutes today to get his
limits. One adult and 2 jacks. Danny is
only 13 years old. I had to give his father
Scott and friend Troy a bad time. We had another good
day on the river today. We landed 3 adults, 2
jacks and released one nice steelhead. I just
got the new computer up and running. I will have
pictures up when I figure the new program out.
Fish on !!!!

Trinity
River 10-5 & 6-05
The
river is shaping up good. I have finally seen
good schools a salmon and steelhead moving up
the river. Oscar and Larry spent the last2 days
with me. I will let the picture tell the
stories. Steelhead season is going to be
big. Make sure if you need a weekend day
to fish, you book your trip now!!!!

Trinity
River 10-3-05 Sorry
for the slow reports. My computer is on its last
leg. Quick recap for the weekend. Friday
we had a couple of fish on, but lost them. My
Kansas boys worked hard. Sunday, I had John and
John. We made the first hole count today.
We caught 3 out of 4 fish there. Boat pressure
was heavy today. Monday we had the river to ourselves.
This was Floyd's first salmon. We landed 2 of 4 fish
on a 1/2 day trip today. Fish are fresh and
action improving everyday.

Trinity
River9-29-05 They
came back for more. Tom, Bruce and Mort returned
for another day. Tom was using some new rods
from Redington today. We are doing some field
testing for them. I think he likes them after
landing this nice salmon. Mort went right back
to work on roe today. The weather was warm
today. Changes in the weather for next
week. Fish On!!!

Trinity
River 9-26-05
I
had the DEL LOMA boys on board today. These guys
were my first guided trip on this river. We had
a good start 2 minutes into the drift. The
salmon just slammed the plug, but it won that
fight. We hooked 14 fish today. 13 salmon
and one steelhead. We were catching fish in all
the holes and slots. When plugs were not
working, roe was.

Trinity
River 9-25-05
What
a difference a day makes. Harry (no hooks) was
the man on the river today. We hooked 9 salmon,
landing these nice ones and releasing others.
The action did not stop today. The salmon are
season is on. FISH ON!!

Trinity
River 9-24-05 I
think Harry is getting the hang of plug fishing.
We had a double on in the first hole today. Ray
lost his, Harry did not. Ray lost another
$5.00. This fish was in the 20 lbs class.
Floating a different stretch tomorrow . 4
days on the water, we will have covered about 15
miles of Trinity river. Check out the bald eagle
that flew overhead.

Trinity
River 9-23-03 I
thought it was going to rain on us today, no such
luck. We got into the first hole and Harry
hooked a nice clean 12 lbs salmon. We hooked 7
fish today, only landing 2 of them. The wind
picked up and the bite stopped. Leaves are
falling into the river. This makes for some tough
fishing. We are floating a different stretch
tomorrow. Fish On!!!
Trinity
River 9-22-05 River
is starting to improve. I have heard reports
about low fish scores. There is not the number
of fish like last year, but that was LAST YEAR.
Take your time working the holes. We took
a 7 lbs steelhead and 3 jack salmon in one hole.
Harry and Ray were fun to fish with today. I
have a couple more days wit them. We hooked 11
fish today. We got to see a pair of bald eagles
today. Fish ON!!!!

Trinity
River 9-18-05 We
had another great day on the river today. In our
first hole we landed 2 nice female salmon. I
knew this was a good start. I watched Gary
fight a fish for well over 15 minutes, to watch it
break us off at the boat. Gary's son Casey had
the big day landing and releasing this nice 8 lbs
hatchery steelhead. Thanks for eating my
sandwich Mike.
Trinity
River 9-17-05 Had
a great day on the river today. We hooked and
landed fish all thru our drift today. With today
being the opener of deer season, I think some people
took the day off. Today we just about got limits
on both jacks and adults. We found a new group
of salmon 1/2 way down our drift. Just look at
the color difference between the two. Action
will only get better. Fish On!!!!

Trinity
River 9-7-05
Don't
leave fish to find fish. Did anyone ever say
that to you? I left fish to find more down
stream today. After the first 5 minutes I knew
we made the right choice. Numbers still are as
high as I would like them. I found the steelhead
I was looking for again. We released a nice
hatchery steelhead to head up river. Lost a a
nice steelhead after the second flip in the air.
Salmon are moving. I saw more roles in the water
today. Fish On!!!

Trinity
River / Feather 9-6-05
Hope
everyone had a good long weekend. Fished the
Feather with the Jay and Daryl Hill. Action is
picking up on the Feather. Still having to work hard
for the bites. I will have a picture up soon of the
salmon caught. ( my camera did 't work).
Back to the Trinity with fresh salmon and steelhead
moving up. Gary landed this nice female on
a plug. F & G were out counting in Junction
City. Numbers are down on the Kings.
Steelhead counts look good. Fish On !!!

Trinity
River 9-1-05 I
went right back today to find the group of steelhead
again. I got into the first hole and found that
a group of jack salmon have pushed up. We hooked
3 fish out of the first hole. Landed another
nice 6 lbs steelhead on a hot shot and 6 lbs
line. What a great fight that was. I
heading over to the Feather for some bigger
salmon. Have a safe long weekend.
Fish On!!
Trinity
River 8-31-05 Water
level are almost back to normal. We got a flush
of water for the Hoopa Indians. I have been
waiting for a group of steelhead to push up the
Trinity. I can tell you we found them
today. We hooked 8 fish landed 4 for them.
2 were wild and 2 hatchery, ranging from 5 to 8
lbs. Salmon still is slow, but signs for them
are improving. Feather weather and water temps
are cooling. Salmon action is start to
take off with stronger numbers this week.

Trinity
River 8-26-05 I
am Back!!!!!! Sorry for no reports. I had
a fight with a circular saw. It won and I had a
few stitches in my arm. I am all better and
ready to go. Feather salmon is getting better
with the cooler water temps. We are going to see
some good fishing coming up. Trinity is waiting
for the large group of steelhead that are in the
Klamath right now. Steelhead and salmon action
will start improving over the next couple of
weeks. Thanks. Fish On!!!!
Steve
Trinity
River 8-5-05
Well
the spring run is just about done. We had a good
15 fish breaking water early today. Bill hooked
one a 50/50 ( tuna and roe) balls. The springer
are getting ready to spawn. It is the calm
before the storm. Steelhead action has improved
all week. The numbers that were counted in
Junction City are increasing. When the group on
the Klamath starts, we will be right behind
them. I don't have a lot of dates open for fall
salmon. Please take the time now.
Thanks Fish on !! Steve
Trinity River 7-27-05
Worked
hard for our bites today. Gary and Bill worked
together to land a nice 8 lbs king, not 9 or 10 like
Gary would like it to be. This fish was fresh
and took a good 10 minutes to land. Action has
slowed on the river. You will need to work all
waters and take your time. The water is low and
clear. Fish On !! Steve
Trinity
River 7-24-05 Weekend
was up and down. Saturday we had easy limits of
fish by 6:30 a.m. Sunday with the same group in
the same place, not one fish. The full moon has
the fish moving fast. With temp. down for next
week, fishing will improve. Steelhead and German
brown action as been good. Thanks Steve
Trinity
River 7-21-05 Were
was Sue when we needed her. I had Ed fishing
today without his wife. Last trip Sue help break
in the new boat with the first fish. We need her
today. Water flows have dropped to 600 cfs.
The salmon are feeling the pressure. The salmon
have moved into the holes. Getting them out as
been the hard part. We hooked 3 salmon, landing
none. That's salmon fishing. Rainbows and
browns can be taking on ultra light rods. Summer
steelhead are moving up the Klamath and will start
showing soon. Fish ON!! Steve
Trinity
River 7-16-05
Weather
as been hot over the last week. Spring salmon
fishing is heating up too. Both bank and boats
have been getting fish. We went 2 for 4
today. The bites came on plugs. We had a smoking
hot salmon just rip line out and just shake the plug
right out. Stay cool this week.
Thanks Steve
Trinity
River 7-13-05 Well
folks, that time is here again. King Salmon
season. The fish are a little late this
year, but were ready. Action is in the middle of
the river right now. This was Bill's first
salmon, can you tell. I have some weekend dates
still open. I saw a nice steelhead yesterday.
Fish On !!!!
Trinity
river and Lewiston Lake 7-2-05
I
went to Lewiston to check out the lake for California
Inland Fisheries project. I took my boys out in
the 20ft drift boat. I got some funny looks, but
what's new. It took Jordan about 5 minutes to
land the first fish. A nice 4+ lbs
rainbow. Kyle followed with a nice 6+ lb
rainbow. We were fishing plugs. Most
people were using eggs and worms. Everyone we
saw, were getting action. Now for salmon, more
fish were caught over the last few days. 0 to 3
per trip, slow but improving daily.

Feather
/ Trinity Rivers / American/ Sac 6-23-05
All
rivers have action right now. The shad are in
the Sac./ Feather and American river. Salmon can
be found in the American and Feather rivers.
German browns and rainbows are in the Trinity right
now. Salmon are moving and action will improve
with the drop of the water flows. We caught and
released well over 50+ rainbows today. The fish
went from 1/2 to 3 lbs. Time to make sure you
have your dates booked!!!!! Fish
On!!! Steve
Feather/
Trinity River 6-12-05
Both
rivers have seen improvement this week. The
Trinity flows are where they are going to be for the
next 30 days. We hooked a salmon, but lost him
on Saturday. We landed some nice german browns
and rainbows. Feather flows have pushed the
salmon up the river. Salmon up to 20 lbs have been
landed this weekend. Salmon fishing on the
Feather will only get better
Trinity
/ Feather 6-7-05
Well
my break is over. Now it is time to get into
salmon again. The Trinity is down to 2100 cfs
and will be at 2000cfs on the 8th. Fishing on
the Trinity will pick up over the next couple of
weeks. The Feather salmon is improving
everyday. We are getting more fish into the
system. The salmon numbers on the Sacramento
Area rivers is going to be double last years
numbers. Thanks Steve
Feather
River 5-14-05 O.K.
the news is out. There are salmon in the
Feather. We have 2 big schools in right
now. Spin fishing has been working the
best. Water flows have been very slow.
Moving over the salmon will only spook them.
When
the flows come up next week, we are going to see more
salmon. We are limited to only 1 spring salmon
this year. Trinity flows are way high. Sacramento
rainbows will pick back up when the flows slow
down. We are booking Feather Springer's and
summer salmon on the Trinity. Take
care Steve
Sacramento
4-14-05 We
have moved over to the Sacramento river. We were
out wild rainbow trout fishing today. Stripers
are in the Colusa area right now. Live
minnows will be your best bet. We were fishing
in the Redding area. The weather was cold for
the last couple of days. The sun finally came
out and so did the fish. Everyone caught fish
today. Some bigger and then others. I can
tell you that salmon season is going to be big this
year. Salmon are moving into the
Feather.

Trinity
River 4-3-05 Gary
wanted to know if the steelhead fishing was over for
the year. We floated Buck tail to steel
bridge. The hatchery is releasing the steelhead
over the last 3 weeks. The action never
stopped. The fish range from 6 to 12
inches. We caught 40+ fish. Great time for
kids. I had my kids meet me at the pull out and
fish with me. They landed 6 fish in 15
minutes. We landed a nice 5lbs German brown and
2 adult hatchery steelhead. You can tell my the
color, these fish were fresh. I will be moving
over to the Sacramento striper fishing on Frank
Townley's boat. If you like to get out ,
call him at (530) 518-0199. Frank is one of the
best on the river. I will be fly fishing and
bait fishing for rainbow's on the Sacramento in the
Redding area for the next couple of weeks. The
salmon will be here soon on the Feather. I will
be fishing there once a week to find them. I
will let you know. Thanks for a great steelhead
season.

Trinity
River 3-25-05 The
river is back into shape. The color is
great. We are still looking for those last few
steelhead. I had Wes and Big Ed fishing
today. We caught 50+ fish today. They
released the steelhead from the hatchery this
week. Most for the fish were 6 to 10
inches. Action was fun with ultra lights
rods. We landed a brown and 1 adult
steelhead. Wes rod went down, I knew we had a
nice fish. We released her back to spawn.
Wes had his own sound effects releasing the
fish. What a fun day on the river.

Feather
3-15-05 Back
to the Feather river today. I heard some
salmon were coming up. It is a little early,
maybe a couple of more weeks. Steelhead are
still in the river. These fish are great on
ultra light rods and reels. Ed and Sue fished
with me today. They broke in the new boat.
Sue landed the first fish on my new boat. We
went 6 for 7 today. We lost a nice big steelhead
at the boat. 2 were down runner and 5 fresh
fish. Average size about 3 lbs.

Trinity
/
Sacramento 3-7-05
We
are still seeing some nice steelhead on the
Trinity. We will be fishing the Sacramento for
rainbows next week. The new boat is here are
ready to go. I have a new "Willie
Club" for this boat. For those who have
fished with me know what I am talking about. I
will be fly fishing and running plugs on all the
rivers. March 19th
and 20th just opened up.
Just let me know.
Trinity
/ American River 3-4-05
Sorry
for the report delays. I have been everywhere
but home. I have been fishing the American for
steelhead the last 2 days. March and April on
the Feather and American can be great days. I
had the big boat out on the river. The American is in
great shape right now. Color and temp is
perfect. The water is warming up and the fish
are too. We hooked and landed 5 steelhead on
Wednesday up to 6 lbs. On Thursday we landed 20
steelhead up to 5 lbs. We fished roe, plugs and
night crawlers. A lot of the fish were 1/2
pounders, but the action never stopped. There
are a lot adults still in the river. All the
fish we fresh steelhead. The new Willie boat is
done and will be here Tuesday.

Trinity
River 2-26-05 We
just got back from Pleasanton I.S.E. Before I
left, I had Matt (49er fan) and Brandon (Dallas fan)
out for steelhead. If you don't know, I am a
Dallas Cowboys fan. We had a lot to talk
about. The first fish was going to set the mood
for the trip. The weather has been clear all
week. The water levels are back down. The
best chance was in the a.m. and dark holes.
Brandon landed this nice 5 lbs female. This was
Brandon's first steelhead. Matt, as this season
was for his team, had to get a ear full. The new
boat will be here next week.

We
fly fished the river on Saturday. We landed a
nice steelhead. We saw some nice fish holding on
the sides and feeding. We had a few take downs,
but did not land them. Sunday we fished
plugs. The rain came down hard all night and 1/2
the day. The other boats wished they had a top
like ours. The river is up and has some great
color. This will push the fish up river next
week. Things looks good. Our new boat will
be here next week. I am taking a few days
of for my father's surgery. Thank you for
reading my reports. Steve

We
bounced back today!!! I found a new group of
steelhead in the river earlier this week. When
the sun and weather comes out, the steelhead fishing
slows greatly. The sun was starting to come out,
and then the clouds came in. We got a little
rain and a lot of steelhead. We landed 5
steelhead and a German Brown. Ryan and Paul from
Vacaville. This was Ryan's first steelhead and
drift boat trip. Ryan is now a steelhead
fisherman.

Trinity
River 2-15-05 Moved
way down river today. I was looking for a new
group of steelhead in the river. I got a chance
to fish today. It did not take us too long to
find our fresh fish. We went 3 for 5 today on a
1/2 day fishing. Landed a nice German Brown,
too. We released all fish, not because we were
being nice. They were all wild!!! After
last weekend, I needed this today. Raining right
now, river is in great shape. Fish On!!!!!

The
new boat will be here soon. All the bells the whistles
will be on this boat. It will hold 3 across the
front for plug fishing and convert to a fly boat with pedestals
holders. Willie boats are simply the best
made. The old boat will have a new home in Del
Loma. I will be floating down river for the next
couple of days looking for more steelhead. Fish On!!!!

Trinity
River 2-13-05 Everyone
runs into a weekend like I had. Conditions have
been clear, but we still have been managing to get our
fish. I only landed 1 fish this weekend on the
upper Trinity. The good news is that other
guides have been getting good numbers below. The
rain came down all night and day today. The
flows are up. The fish will push upstream over
the next couple of days. We had the bald eagle over
our head both days, just 15 ft off the river. I
can't tell you how cool that was. Thanks
Steve Trinity
River 2-10-05 Thank
you for everyone who sent in emails for Marilyn.
We will see what becomes of this. Mike at www.usafishing.com
is a great place to read up and keep informed about
these types of issues.
We
were fly fishing on the Trinity today. Mike and
Russ worked hard for bites . We landed 2
steelhead today. Russ landed his first ever
steelhead. I can tell you about my first
steelhead. Too cool. Water is very
clear. Pressure was light. Weather is due
in Sunday. We need it. Hatchery has seen
approx 5000 steelhead so far. They will be
taking eggs for the next 3 Tuesdays. Numbers
look good for the season. We had ice on the
guides today. Dam cold out.
Trinity
River 2-7-05 Well,
it was my son Kyle's birthday today. It should
have been Gary's. Gary started by landing a nice
fresh steelhead. This got things off to a good
start. We were the only boat on the water
today. Ran plugs today on 6 lbs test. Put
the plugs out in the next hole and the pole got
slammed. The fish pulled out about 50 ft of line
and then jumped 4 ft out of the water. Please
tell me you have it Gary!!! Gary I think started
to cry (I would). This was a big
steelhead. We reloaded and went right back into
the hole. As soon as Gary put the plug in and
went to place it in the holder, the rod dived down
again. Gary thought it was not running
right. I yelled Fish, Fish. This fish came
out of the water. We had it, just needed to land
it. As you can see, we did. We went 3 for 5
today. Saw some nice fish in the river.

Trinity
River 2-4-05 Clear
conditions is the word on the Trinity. We have
been working for the bites and getting them on plugs
and roe. Landing the fish as been another
story. We had 7 on today, landing only
one. Ken was the man, Mark should have been bass
fishing. The fish we have been catching
have been fresh. There are a lot of down runners
(steelhead that have spawned) moving back down the
river. Rain would help us a lot. Things
are good, but could be better with weather.

River 2-1, 2-2-05
When
you have good people in your boat, the day goes by
fast. This group from Sacramento was one of the
funniest to fish with. There was nothing out of
bounds for these guys. Any joke goes. We
had a tough first day, hooking 3 and landing
0. The second day started off better with a nice
5 lbs female in the second hole. We hooked 2
more, but lost them both. Good people out
enjoying each other and the outdoors. Thanks for
a great trip "Frank your guide"
Trinity
River 1-31-05 When
you take out writers out, you have one big fear:
No fish. Well, in the first hole we were
in, the pole went down. We had a great
hit, but no fish. We worked the water
hard. We had 3 take downs and no fish.
Weather is nice and water is clearing fast.
Steelhead are pairing up and starting to
spawn.
Trinity
River 1-29-05 I
knew the boat pressure was going to be heavy
today. I launched in front of my house to get a
head start. It worked. Bob from Jackson
want to catch his first real steelhead. We
worked hard for the bites today. We landed a
nice German Brown, but no steelhead. Until we
got to a nice dark place on the river. We sent
the plug out. Next thing Bob is wondering what
that fish jumping was. You tell me what is
was.... Bob landed a nice wild 11 lbs
female. The other boats, mostly fly fisherman,
were in awe. We
counted 11 trailers at the pull
out.
Trinity
River 1-28-05 Let
the rain come down, and it did. I met Kevin,
Tony, and Ron and asked if they were ready for
this. It was pouring rain. They were on
their way to the Smith and stopped for a day on the
Trinity. There were a few other brave boats
heading out. We put our rain top up on the
boat. The rain stopped and we had a good
time. Kevin landed a hatchery female about 9
lbs. We fished 1/2 a day and they made it on
their way.
Trinity
River 1-27-05
The
river is in good shape. The rain last night
helped. Let talk about Gary's fish......... O.k.
that's it. Now John's fish is another
story. John landed my largest steelhead this
season. We video taped the 10 minute
fight. Landed the male and went to take his
picture. This fresh wild steelhead worked
himself out of my hands. Hit the seat and
flopped right back into the water. The fish
measured over 33 inches. He weighed in at over
11 lbs. Thank you for the video, Gary. We went 1
for 5 today. We got the chances.

Trinity
River 1-26-05 Well
we made it. What a long week. Great seeing
everyone at the I.S.E in Sac. We got to see some
old and new friends. We got some rain last
night. River needed it. Things look good
on all the rivers for some good steelhead
action. We will have some pictures up soon.
Thanks Steve

Weather
is clear and the fishing good. The boat were on
the water heavy over the long weekend. We went
fly fishing in front of our house this
afternoon. We caught 2 nice steelhead 7lbs and 5
lbs. We are
fly fishing tomorrow. We will be heading to the International
Sportsman Expo is Sac. I will be there the rest
of the week. I will be back on Tuesday for a
report.
Trinity
River 1-1-05 I
have a new friend for life now. Gary from
Sacramento has been fishing with us for the last 3
days. We hooked a few, cried when we broke off
some and had a great time. Sounds like steelhead
fishing? Today Gary landed a big 10+ hatchery
steelhead. She measured over 30 inches.
This fish hit the plug in less than 30 seconds.
After a good 10 minute fight and picture, she was
released. The hatchery has seen over 600
steelhead so far. Things will only get
better! Fish On !!!
Trinity
River 1-11-05 Well
it's been cold; raining and snowing. Sounds like
steelhead weather? It is. Fishing has been
good when you can get out. The roads have had
snow and ice on them. Water levels and color are
good. We are getting some great hook ups. Today's
fish came flying out of the water 5 times. It
was only 4+ lbs and wild. The fight was one of
the best this year. Gary, who I think is moving
in with us. Ha Ha, is back for the next 3 days.
We went 2 for 3 on adults. We released the big
buck to go make babies.
Trinity
River 1-7-05 Well
the snow came down last night. Gary and Casey
stayed the night to fish again today. Gary was
wondering if this was going to be a big day? We
were in the water for 3 minutes. Casey went to get his
line out. It hit the water, a so did the
steelhead. He jumped and tossed the hook.
Casey was wondering if this was going to be a day like
yesterday. Casey thinks he need to set the fish
like Bass. Casey is a good fisherman learning
something new. We floated down about 50 yards
and Casey had another one on. We landed and
released it. 30 minutes later Casey had another
steelhead. This fish came out of the water and
caught on film. We will have the film at our
booth at I.S.E. I have some dates before the
show. Fish On!!!!!

American
/Trinity
River 1-5-05 We
got out on the American this week. We took a
nice wild steelhead on the first drift. Then we
worked hard to land another. There was little
pressure on the river. Most bank fisherman were
using beads. We went 2 for 4 with both fish
being wild. A lot of salmon were still in the
water. Now to the Trinity. We had a great
day on the water today. We went 2 for 6 with 2
big adults. Casey landed this big wild buck 9
lbs+. We broke off a large steelhead. Poor
Casey was crushed again. Gary landed a nice
hatchery female about 8 lbs. Pressure was low and
water is clearing up nice. Another storm is due
in, we will see what happens.

Trinity
River 1-1-05
Happy
New Year everyone. The Trinity river looks good
with all the weather that has come in. We are
seeing some new smaller fish coming up. The
steelhead will pick up when the weather settles down.
I will be on the American for the next couple of days
and will update the web when I get back. Don't
forget the get a new fishing licensees. Last years
fishing report will still be available, use the link
above.
